When I've hired, I've found that contractors or people who have had a
variety of jobs are generally more versatile, more used to
responsibility, and more justifiably confident in their abilities.

My experience: this is my fourth job since December 1999.

Company 4 - 10.5 yrs, lone writer or one of 2. Multiple tasks & responsibilities.

Company 3 - 9 months (contract), member of team, several deliverables.

Company 2 - 5 months (full-time), member of team, 1/2 of one product.

Current company - 2 months so far (full-time), lone writer. Multiple tasks & responsibilities. (Even so far it's better than the last 2 jobs.)

The opportunities I was offered at the long-term job defined what I think of as a good fit for me, and it only took 2 jobs to learn that....
