> there have any guidelines or ideas?
I've been around the track a few times, so here's my suggestions:
- Talk to the manufacturer and settle on the exact box design. There are
more variations than you might think: shapes, sizes, and flaps can all
differ, to say nothing of coatings for the cardboard. Ask if the
manufacturer has a template for the box design you settle on.
- Since you don't know how the box might end up - on the shelf, in a
bin, or lying spine out - make sure that the product name and the
company name are on every side of the box and can be read from a few
feet away.
- The back of the box ordinarily has some screen shots and some
technical information geared to a general audience. If the product has a
product sheet, you can use some of the same material.
- The front of the box should have a strong, eye-catching image. You
could also add some of the main features or benefits of the software. A
quote from someone well known is also ideal.
- Include somewhere the system requirements and copyright notices for
what's in the box. A side is a good place.
- Depending on the initial number of copies, plan on 2-3 weeks for
manufacturing.
That should cover most of the considerations. Hope this helps.
