Large and detailed diagrams such as these can only be viewed effectively on
a computer screen if you can zoom in and out on them (be it in Word or
online). This is not possible with fixed pixel-by-pixel bitmap formats
obtained through screen capture or otherwise. So GIF, JPEG, BMP, TIFF and
PNG are all useless here really... Nope - you'll need a vector graphics
format. It will adapt itself to the size and screen resolution of the
display device, and to the zoom level defined by the user.

Now, i do not know which vector formats ERWin can export to itself. But if
the diagrams can be printed, they can also be printed to a PostScript
printer driver file, creating a vector-based .ps file. From there, our
commercial ps2vector software converts them to several other vector formats
for where you need to use them:

MS Word or PowerPoint: WMF and EMF
FrameMaker: MIF
Web: SVG, CGM, Flash

The web formats all require plug-ins, each with their own advantages and
drawbacks. But Micrografx' free ActiveCGM viewing technology is ideal for
viewing detailed graphics such as ERWin diagrams online. It has good
performance and some nifty zooming functions such as zoom box and a
magnifying window. The CGM graphics can simply be embedded into HTML pages.
Word reads CGM too by the way.

You're welcome to send me a sample diagram in PostScript to try this out for
yourself. More info about our software can be found at the URL below.

Best regards,

Jeroen Dekker
