I have a background in English and taught for a few years during grad
school -- it's not corporate training, but it's close enough that someone
could conceivably propose that I take on some training responsibilities
somewhere. It's hard to be certain what I would do in that situation, but
right now my gut feeling is: if I wanted to teach, I would have stayed in
teaching.

As an introvert, I found it took huge amounts of energy to get up in front
of classes and teach. It consumed *all* my attention--my own academic
research collapsed. If I started doing training, I fear that my tech
writing work would similarly fall by the wayside. I'm glad I had the
experience of teaching, and I'm told I was good at it... but I made a
deliberate choice to abandon it. It may seem sensible to some people to ask
an ex-teacher to teach, but that request overlooks the fact that we're
EX-teachers for a reason.
