If the list has any consistency (e.g. there are two paragraphs after every
company name), you can still turn it into a "sortable" table by playing with
the settings in the Convert Text to Table dialog box.
For example, be sure to specify the Number of Columns. If you've got two
paragraphs after each company name, you need a total of three columns. Your
goal is to have each company name in the first column. The other paragraphs
will be placed in separate columns.
Also, be sure to specify that you want to separate the columns by paragraph.
When you've got a table that has the company names in the first column,
select the entire table. Then, click the Table menu and choose Sort. This
will give you a dialog box where you can specify that you want to sort on
Column 1 (where the Company names are). Because you've selected the entire
table, Word will keep the rows together and your data accurate.
Once you've sorted the table, select the entire thing again, and convert it
back to text.
Lastly, if you plan to do this frequently, you might want to create a macro
that does all of these things.

Hi,
Thanks for the Tools - Sort, everyone! It helps some, but the company names
have paragraphs with them containing contact info. When I sort, it pulls
every line of text apart and sorts each line.
Someone recommended tables, but it won't set up automatically. Again each
line gets separated into a row, then sorted out of sequence.
Another suggested the Outline view, then condense, then sort, but this
isn't working either. Unless I'm missing a step or not condensing
properly...
