Only if you're new to cookbooks. For an example of one of the best indexes in *any* kind of publication today, see the Joy of Cooking. I would hope that most indexing classes hold it up as a goal for all indexers to someday achieve.

Sometimes I read the index just for inspiration when I'm indexing my own material (and don't even get me started on indexing one's own material).
