Does anyone break into telecommuting? I regard it as a gift of the
gods that dropped into my lap. :-)

You might try the elance site if you're interested in contract work.
But if you're looking for long-term employment, I suspect that
finding telecommuting is partly a matter of luck and partly a matter
of having skills that the company needs enough that it will endure
the fact that you're out of the office most of the time.

Even then, to judge from my experience, the company may try very
hard to encourage you to come to the office regularly. From a
management perspective, I can see the point; from several thousand
miles away, I have to try very hard to keep in touch with people.
But that means that very few, if any companies, are going to
advertise for a telecommuting job - telecommuting is a condition
that companies will accept, not encourage.

And I could be wrong, but the general trend appears to be moving
away from the whole idea.
