I heartily recommend investing in:
Newton's Telecom Dictionary (the official dictionary of Telecommunications,
Networking and the Internet)
by Harry Newton.
ISBN: 1-57820-053-9

It includes an introduction, a comprehensive list of terms, a list of
standards organizations and some common diagrams.

I have found it essential, whether you work in telecom, datacom, networking
or wireless.
