In my experience, the "industry standard" is whatever the guy paying the
bills says you have to use. I've written documents in everything from DOS
text editor to FrameMaker.

Certain tools are preferred over others by TWs in general, but even that is
VERY subjective.

You didn't mention why you asking this, but if you are trying to justify the
expense of adding a tool to your desktop, I would recommend looking closely
at your needs and justifying the tools based on that.
