TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
Making assumptions about reader knowledge. One has to do it at some point in the
process.
As someone who likes to cook, I find the brown-n-serve anecdote incredibly
depressing. It suggests that these people were taught NOTHING about their kitchens
in the course of their entire lives, and are hence finding quite a bit out through
needless trial and error. *sigh*
BTW, there is an entire genre of cookbooks written for the inexperienced kitchen
consumer. Might make good birthday presents for a few relatives of people on this
list. :-)
