Being indispensible and angling for organizational power aren't the
same thing.

For one thing, if you prove your worth, you're far more likely to be
left alone to get on with the job, and be spared the office
political struggles.

More importantly, for a contractor, being indispensable means a
satisfied client. And THAT means you may be hired again. It may also
mean that your rep may increase through word of mouth, as a
satisfied CEO mentions your name to another.
