John,

You know, I'm always afraid e-mails can come across in the wrong tone, and I
didn't want that to happen with my reply. So, I want to make sure you don't
think I'm slamming your resume. I'm not. I've never seen it, though I'll
make sure and check out your link. Thanks! But please understand, I'm not
assuming your resume is bad. Gawd, no!

And I'm not suggesting changing the content. Our accomplishments are our
resumes' contents, agreed, but how the contents are *presented* must change,
in my opinion, based on the type of job being sought, thus my reason for
responding to your e-mail, and for my emphasis on writing for the reader.

You wrote:
Sometimes, non-sw related writing has an impact on the software
project in question. If I'm writing sw-related information for a
proposal response, wouldn't sales experience be a plus?

You know, this reminds me of the last software company job I had. It was a
POS software/hardware provider (cash registers) for restaurants... and as it
got down to the end of the interview, my future boss asked me: 'Did you work
during college?' 'Why, yes,' I said. 'I was a shift manager at a Burger King
for two years....' And that is what he wanted to know. I had all the other
credentials he wanted, but I had omitted one -- the one the company wanted
to see: Restaurant experience. Thus, this episode reinforced my
understanding of presenting the proper content in the correct form for the
reader to easily understand and use.

I'll take a look at your site.

Thanks!
