I like going to the local regional conferences and I love speaking at them.
But I have never gotten any clients out of it. I don't expect to any more.
It is all resume/qualifications stuff that makes me look like an expert on
something.

I have never been to an International conference but I do not see any reason
to think differently about it.

I wish that the conferences were held at hotels that were less expensive.
Since I own my own company (as do many of us who are self employed), I not
only pay for the conference, travel, and hotel, I lose billable hours. It
can cost me 3x the total cost of the conference. It burns me to pay $150-200
a night in hotel fees.
