"No printer will accept files in X format" is almost never a reason to avoid using "X" these days. Virtually any program can print to a PostScript file these days (by printing through a PostScript driver to a file) or you can install Adobe Acrobat and print to the Distiller. Any printer worth her salt will accept an Acrobat file, and most will accept straight PostScript files too.

Use the publishing program that suits your needs, and don't worry about the needs of the people who print it... you can handle those needs separately.
