Are you transfering the files as ASCII, or Binary? Most FTP programs figure
this out by the file type, but some you have to set manually. All text or
HTML files should be transferred as ASCII (meaning plain text). All jpegs,
gifs, pdfs, docs, or other proprietary file types should be transferred as
binary type.
Diana asks:

Absolutely, as otherwise noted, you should get rid of the cheesy ads. You
may not have to pay extra, though, if you're already paying for an ISP.
Nearly all ISPs provide a limited amount of web space free with your
account. Check that out first--if yours doesn't, I'd look for a domain
hosting service, and buy your own domain. If you're going to pay anyway, you
may as well have a name of your choosing.
