RE: The Question of the Week!
But the technology might change the complexion of your projects (for example, purely linear writing vs. hypertext).
Tracy,
I question the assertion that hypertext is not linear. Perhaps not purely linear, but, using extensive cross-referencing in print documents also would qualify being lumped with "hypertext." The main difference being that you can be taken to your reference by a click of the mouse button instead of manually turning the pages.
We read in a linear fashion, our thinking is linear (with branches), and our documentation is linear. Chunking the data instead of laying it out in a formal linear format is really begging the question, when you code your instructions to access the data it is still formatted in a linear fashion.
I agree that technology changes the complexity, but the change is relative to the medium and to the skill sets required to design and format the production of the document.
