For 17 years I worked as an oncology (chemo and cancer) nurse, working directly with unlimited quantities of morphine, demerol, dilaudid, and other delightful substances both toxic and radioactive. I had a variety of jobs, thanks to managed care and the collapse of the health care system. I was only tested for drugs once in all that time.
Of course, I never did any substances at all when I was working. The only drug I ever took that interfered with my performance was my asthma inhaler; it made my hands shake, and on the days I had to take it, I'd ask someone else to start my peripheral IV's (unless I didn't like the patient, hahahaaaaaa... just kidding).
Now I have my first formal job in TW, and I was tested for it! And from what you all are saying, testing is fairly ubiquitous. How funny!
Martha
