[procedure-run-amok story snipped]

I love this story--I have this great mental image of the 'lost in space'
robot careening around a factory full of cowering technicians, smashing huge
sheets of glass and frantically waving its rubber-hose arms in the air,
while the technical writer stands quietly in the corner, carefully annotates
her procedure in red pen, and then sidles off through the door.

Does anyone else have any first-hand interesting or informative anecdotes
about the real-world effects of errors or omissions in their technical docs?

cheers,
brent
