I think that the "container" you choose (physical or electronic) has a lot
to do with what sort of work you do. In interviewing folks, I've seen a lot
of three-ring binders, and they are easy to make your way around in. I've
never been given a portfolio on CD or zip. For my own portfolio I use a
basic (but smaller size) artist's portfolio. A three-ring binder won't work
to show some of my bound samples, brochures, etc. When I'm showing work that
has been packaged in a three-ring binder itself, like a user manual, I take
a digital photo of the binder/original packaging and include that with
sample chapters, workplans, etc. For my interface design work, I use screen
shots in my portfolio, rather than an electronic copy. I haven't used a
personal Web site, but am intrigued by the idea ... it sounds great.

Just my 2 cents.
