RE: Odd FM/PDF behaviour
Damien,=============================================
I recently had the same problem trying to generate PDFs from Frame documents
containing math equations. The log contained no reason for the error. I
found that when I changed my default printer from my ps printer to
Distiller, the PDF generated fine. I don't really understand why but it
worked.
Would you use a Linotype PPD to print to an inkjet printer?
Of course not. You'd use the PPD for the particular model
of inkjet.
Distiller is just another printing device. For obvious reasons, you'll
always get better results when you use the Distiller PPD
You shouldn't have any problem understanding that. The expert
on producing PDF at Adobe is Dov Isaacs. He has tried to make
this point over and over again in postings to the lists. Because,
when you use FM's Save to PDF "feature", you default printer
is selected, he strongly recommends against using Save As PDF,
and instead you should always use the print dialog to print to
a postscript file, using the Distiller PPD.
I state it again. You must treat Distiller as though it were another
printing device, because that's what it is. If you try to produce
postscript for distilling using a PPD other than Distiller's, you
will get anomalous postscript files which are likely to produce
undesirable results (e.g., larger files, things that don't print right)
when you distill them into PDF.
