Re: Plagiarism vs Fixed Botches

Wow! I didn't realize plagiarism was so rampant in this profession!
Tony Markatos responds:
Your absolutely right Kay; there is a lot of TW plagiarism. But there is another "angle" to the problem that I would like to bring to light. I have, more than once, been given an assignment that was "98% percent done". These were probably the most difficult assignments I have ever had.
I came in late on this, but there are other aspects as well. I had one job where I was supposed to document the installation and setup of a particular board. It was similar, but not identical to an existing board for which instructions already existed. I took the existing FrameMaker document and created a brand-new set of instructions. There was perhaps 25% overlap between the new documentation and the old documentation. The format already existed, though I did some clean-up work on it.
Was I entitled to use the new documentation as part of my portfolio? The woman I worked for certainly thought so; she gave me permission to take away both hard copy and a copy of the FrameMaker file when the job ended. Do you disagree? Do you consider that plagiarism?
