As with everything, it depends upon your audience:

Religious: Lay hands upon the icon...

Medical: Probe the icon...

Kinky: Lick the icon... (also, see Medical)

Parent: Wipe the icon with a moist towellette to get the peanut butter
off...

Single-celled Organisms: Extend a pseudopod towards the icon...

Or, you could just go with the utterly boring "Select..." or "Touch..."
