I doubt you'll find anything commercial, so you will have to write this
yourself unless someone has already written a custom converter they are
willing to share with you.

I would approach a problem like this:

Save the Word documents as RTF.

Use Rick Geimer's free RTF2XML (available at
http://www.omnimark.com/develop/contributed/index.html) to convert it to
XML.

Write an OmniMark program to translate the XML to text with the appropriate
formatting.
