I have the task of setting up an internship program for our 25 or so
Technical and Professional Writing Majors. It is a new program in CT
area, and we plan to put our Majors through a rigorous training program,
including three topics courses in areas such as, environmental
communication, technology management, project management, etc. The
students will also Minor in a technical or business area--computer
science, engineering, etc. Of course, they will go through a substantial
coursework in rhetoric, document production, graphics, etc.
I will welcome your suggestions on the ways I could approach
business/industry for internship positions (all students will be required
to do one semester of intern work ranging from full-time to 20 hours per
week). We will encourage our students to do this work when they are
close to being seniors so that they are well-prepared to use their
knowledge and skills from our curriculum. Please send your comments,
suggestions and tips to me (once again) at: soswal -at- hartford -dot- edu
