In my case the company got just a little bit bigger.
After four years as technical publications manager
with a staff of two production assistants and a string
of contract writers I left to go start a pubs group for
another company, and the first company proceeded
to get a whole lot smaller.
I try never to talk about whether I'm "just that good,"
except in job interviews and on my own self-review
forms. The rest of the time I'd rather let others decide
for themselves without any coaching from me.
