TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
These are all very good points, but I imagine a number of these issues
weren't resolved until someone offered up the doomsday scenario. I mean,
who funds research if they've never heard of the problem it's trying to
solve? Articulating the problem (whether melodramatically or otherwise)
is an important step in solving it. Otherwise you'd just have to sit
around until somebody, out of the blue, said "hey, I've just invented
this thing--it's called a polio vaccine...is there any use for it?" DB.
