TechWhirl (TECHWR-L) is a resource for technical writing and technical communications professionals of all experience levels and in all industries to share their experiences and acquire information.
For two decades, technical communicators have turned to TechWhirl to ask and answer questions about the always-changing world of technical communications, such as tools, skills, career paths, methodologies, and emerging industries. The TechWhirl Archives and magazine, created for, by and about technical writers, offer a wealth of knowledge to everyone with an interest in any aspect of technical communications.
I'd wait a little while longer. Only having a year of experience, you could
do with some more breadth of experience before trying to go it as a
contractor.
My .02,
Justin

Subject: Contracting, Contracting
I've reached that point in my life where I have to make some choices...would
love to have a little advice:
1 How's the market for contracting right at the moment (Ohio, CA and
anywhere)
2 Insurance companies to deal with for individuals (or a good book/listing)
3 A good book/advice for dealing with the tax thing
4 Estimated rates (1 year+ experience, Frame, Word, PDF, RoboHelp(HTML), BA
in english)
5 Is contracting really the best decision for me at the moment
Thanks in advance for any help.
