I didn't know that Eric worked for Sun Microsystems, but their style guide _Read This First_ is a wonderful resource. In addition to useful advice on style, etc., it includes a CD with FrameMaker templates for its own pages. You can modify the templates for your own use, and they come with either chapter-by-chapter numbering or start-to-end numbering.

BTW, the FrameMaker template collection by David Valiulus and Gregory Wasson is back online after a long absence during Adobe's site redesign. The URL is

The template primer an especially valuable resource.
