Both being equal, I would go with "towards". Having said that, as long as
you use it consistently, it doesn't make much difference.

The US prefers "toward" eh? Then I would say "towards" is definitely the way
to go. The same for "colour", "humour", and "honour". Oh... and re-open
trade with Cuba too, please.
