This is actually a programming question, but I don't know enough about
programming to figure it out for myself.

I currently create my help systems using RoboHTML. Our help systems include
both window-level context-sensitive help, and control-level help (or What's
This? help). I have been using the RoboHelp What's This? Help Composer to
create the What's This? help, but we don't seem to be having much success
with it. I know that in RoboHTML, I can also create What's This? help using
text-only topics. The only hitch is that the programmer needs to provide me
with a list of all the map IDS to link the text-only topics to the
appropriate controls in the application.

I know that in order to provide the map files for the window-level help, the
programmers can just automatically generate the necessary lists. Does anyone
know if, in Visual C++, they can automatically generate the necessary Map
IDs for What's This? help? Or do the programmers need to manually assign IDs
to each control?

Please respond to me directly, as I receive the digest version of the list.
