Hello List Members,

I know this questions has been hashed before but I can't seem to find
anywhere on it.
What is the rule for punctuation at the end of parentheses?

* I checked the Chicago Manual of Style and it shows punctuation outside
the parentheses (but I must point out that my copy is dated 1994).

* I checked The Elements of Technical Writing handbook and it shows
punctuation outside the parentheses (unless there were special situations).
My copy is dated 1993.

* I also check the Grammar Smart handbook and it shows punctuation outside
the parentheses (dated 1996).

* I further checked the Internet local newspaper (The Tampa Tribune) and
the local online TV station (WFLA) and both have the punctuation inside the
parentheses or quotes.

HELP!!!!

I know this is a simple question and probably has a simple answer. Have the
rules changed since my 1994 Chicago Manual of Style? Also, what is the
latest version of this manual?

Thanks,
Cassandra Parker
