I think the need for documentation is driven by the complexity involved in
operating the device that uses embedded systems, not by the fact that it
uses them. There may be a technical writing niche involved in writing design
and reference material for embedded systems, but I wonder if trying to
document such sophisticated and proprietrary designs might result in a lot
of "we could tell you, but then we'd have to kill you" responses from SMEs.
If you have the knowledge needed to write these documents, maybe you ought
to be an embedded systems enginer!
