Fair enough point made.

However, doc control as I understand it is not absolute. Meaning that the
programmers go in and change information (the 'data entry' you refer to) as
they
updates items - seemingly on a frequent basis.

Hence the desire to automate the process so that the doco goes out the door
with
uniform and correct information.

Well, unless the document changes frequently, why not do all the data
entry, then unlink the fields (saving the ToC field code as an autotext
entry for future use), then select the text and use Convert Text to Table,
with paragraphs as delimiter instead of the usual tabs. Would that work?
