John,

Technical writing and creative writing are the same thing in that they are
both forms of writing. However, the audience can differ dramatically.
Typically, technical writing provides documentation for the instructional or
informational purposes. Thus, the writing is very detailed and the
information simply put. Clarity becomes a main issue as does format.

Creative writing more often provides entertainment, so the focus differes.
For example in a mystery novel, the writer wishes to confuse and confound
(to keep the ending a surprise) not provide detailed instruction.

So while both formats provide written material. How you go about the
writing and the style and approach of the written text is very different.
