If you leave it at that you're absolutely right but, as a starting
point,
defining words that indicate key concepts and ideas can jump start your
index writing.

The real strength of IXgen is not that it can automatically generate
index markers
but that it manages them well. Basically, it generates a table with the
marker text
which you can edit. When done editing, the table is applied to the
document and the
markers are updated.

The author still has to do the thinking and write the index.
