Per the M$ Manual of Style, it's a "program file," although if you called it
a "program" (which I would prefer) or just a "file," your instructions are
clear enough. I'm not sure it's relevant whether it is the main executable
or just an applet.

After first mention, you could even stop calling it anything other than
mdac_typ.exe, e.g.:

"Run mdac_typ.exe by clicking it once to highlight it, then press the
[Enter] key on your keyboard.

"Result: This will run mdac_typ.exe."
