I am forwarding this message to you in case you receive the "list.doc"
virus from me. (My PC was infected.) The virus apparently only works if
you're using MS Outlook or MS Outlook Express. I'm not; but just in case
I may have passed the virus along to others, here's the problem
description and solution.

Morning all,

Saw a post a moment ago that a new virus (named Melisa) started
propagating through Email on Friday March 26. If this is true, this is
how it works:

You will receive an Email from one or more known persons with a brief
note - and an MS Word attachment "list.doc." So far no problems. Once
you open the document, then a macro within heads off to your address
book and sends messages to the first 50 people listed - with the virus
document attached. The harm isn't to the senders computer but to the
mail server which could be overwhelmed by the barrage of mail.

NOTE: 1. It appears only to work this way with MS Outlook and MS Outlook
Express. 2. It only works when MS macros are switched on (on is the
default).

The solution is simple, don't open ANY attachment that you did not
request.

For more information go to

Take care,

Jeff
