This is posted for a friend who is not subscribed to the list. The manager
is one of the best in the business, although the work is not particularly
technical in nature. The job needs somebody with _very_ strong MS Word
skills. Please reply to the address at the bottom, not to me.

ASSISTANT MANAGING EDITOR/ELECTRONIC MANUSCRIPT SPECIALIST
Indiana University Press
PA 12

In addition to editing responsibilities, the Assistant Managing
Editor/Electronic Manuscript Specialist is responsible for preparing
electronic manuscripts for on-screen copy editing and composition. Duties
include evaluating and converting authors' files; resolving associated
problems; creating and running macros to standardize file formatting;
working directly with authors, editors, and typesetters; investigating new
technologies and software; editing electronic files and hard copy as
needed; monitoring workflow of approx. 150 books per year; supervising
editorial secretary; and ensuring the smooth operation of the office in
the absence of the Managing Editor.

Qualifications: Bachelor's degree or equivalent (graduate study
preferred); broad knowledge of computer systems, including familiarity and
facility with word-processing programs (esp. Word and WordPerfect), macro
writing, database systems, and FTP; strong competence in editing, with
demonstrated knowledge of grammar, spelling, and usage. Publishing
experience highly desirable.

The Assistant Managing Editor must be diplomatic, flexible, and highly
organized, and must excel at trouble-shooting. The ability to work
effectively in spite of frequent interruptions is essential. We are
looking for an enthusiastic, creative self-starter who can help us
continue to move in new directions in this time of rapidly changing
publishing technology.
