Kathy,

In a document we've recently upgraded for a new software release, adding
captions to the figures actually helps orient the reader to the section of the
installation chapter (in particular) they're reading. This chapter describes a
new installation wizard we've designed. In fact, it has so many screen shots
we could turn it into a film clip, but then the captions would take on a
completely different spin. We weren't using captions before, and I was
surprised at what an improvement it made. I agree with your suggestions.
