Linda Moseff reported that MS Tech Support <<...recommended
downloading the SR-2 patch from the Microsoft web site. This patch
was developed to take the place of SR-1 because SR-1 is causing
problems in several Office 97 applications.>>

You'd think by now that they'd know better. There were so many
problems with the SR-2 patch that Microsoft basically pulled the plug
on it and did what they should have done in the first place: offered
a _free_ (not even shipping and handling on your dime) replacement CD
for all of Office97 that contains the full versions of the software
with the SR-2 patch built in. All you need is a legal serial number
for your software, and the Ogres at Redmond will happily send you the
replacement CD. Full details can be had on the "Woody's Office Watch"
web site, www.wopr.com (which is well worth bookmarking).

As a charter member of the "resistance is futile, but I'm not giving
in without a fight" camp, I admit to having acquired a great deal of
respect for the company lately: after a few abortive efforts to do it
the wrong way, they ended up doing the right thing by shipping the
bug fix free. One can only hope this is a trend rather than a random
act of kindness...
