Yes, it can be done with the freeware/shareware programme Ghostview,
which is downloadable from e.g.
http://neural.sc.mahidol.ac.th/download/ghost.htm.
After downloading, follow the instructions given on the above
website.

In Ghostview ...
1. Open the .PS or .PRN file.
2. Use the menu "Edit/Text Extract" and follow the instructions.

Please note, that Ghostview is very sensitive to what it interprets
as PS and PDF errors, which means that not all files can be opened.
But before you give up, see the help file for further instructions
about settings, etc., that _may_ solve your problem.
