Extensible Markup Language (XML) gives HTML some *SMGL power* enabling
users to create and define their own tags. It is being positioned to
manipulate back end data for use with web pages.

Right now, you need special browsers to be able to use XML. But
eventually both the Big Two browsers (IE and NN) should support it in
upcoming versions.

Oh, just for your info, there is also Extensible Style Language (XSL)
which is to XML what Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) are to HTML.
