>Well, the opinion on the list so far seems to be that this recruiter is all
wet, but I think there is some truth in the kiss of death theory. Some people
are just extremely adverse to all things military, and might reject your resume
right off the bat. Others, like me, might see it as merely a strike against.

Having spent four years in the Air Force assigned to SAC doing Armament and
Electronic maintainance and having lost a brother in Vietnam (no, he didn't kill
anyone not trying to kill him), I personally would not want to work for anyone
who would prejudice my participation due to having military experience.

I consider this whole issue one of the triumph of image over substance and
symbol over fact, partially discussed by Paul Lutus at
http://www.arachnoid.com/lutusp/symbols.html and am surprised that technical
writers, who are supposed to understand the difference, would fall into this
trap.

On the other hand, others might view it as a plus, so I
|think it's decided at a personal level. It might work against you, but it
|might work for you.
