"Designing Effective Instructional Content in the Distance Learning
Environment"

When: Wednesday, Oct. 7, 1998
6:00 - 7:00 Networking
7:00 - 8:00 Speaker Presentation

Where: Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products
52 Third Avenue
Burlington, MA
(781) 203-5115

Speaker: Jo-Ann Driscoll, Senior Education Specialist, Centra Software,
Inc.

Topic summary:
What is distance learning and how will it affect you? What skills are
required in this environment? Do participants learn as well as in the
traditional environment? How can you design electronic documentation to fit
the distance learning model?

We'll look at the answers to these questions as we discuss instructional
design techniques aimed at the participant who is not sitting in the same
room as you are. We'll compare this new environment with the more
traditional one and see how we can capitalize on the similarities and bring
the participant into the virtual classroom.

About the speaker:
Jo-Ann Driscoll has been involved in technical training as a trainer,
developer, and instructional designer for many years with stints at Cullinet
Software, Powersoft, Sybase, and now Centra Software. She has worked in the
traditional classroom environment, multimedia, and distance learning. She
holds an M.Ed. in Instructional Design from UMass.
