Gang,
Here's the requested PNG graphics summary (adapted/
plagiarized heavily from _Mastering HTML 4_, Ray & Ray).

PNG stands for Portable Network Graphics and is a
World Wide Web consortium recommended standard.
It's supported by the latest versions of Navigator 4.0.x
and IE 4.x (although not the earliest releases of either).

PNG offers transparency, interlacing/progressive rendering,
lossless compression, and is very good for presenting
line art. Like GIF on all of these issues.
PNG offers support for millions of colors and compresses
photographs very well. Like JPG on these issues.
PNG is free of all legal obstacles, like those plaguing software
that produces GIF images.

Brief tests with Paint Shop Pro 5.0 show that the compression
out of PSP isn't as good as either GIF or JPG, but that's likely
a result of the way it's implemented in PSP rather than the
actual quality of the algorithm. (The implementation seems
minimal, not as feature-rich as many of the other graphics
formats PSP supports.)

The official PNG home page is at http://www.cdrom.com/pub/png/,
and in addition to thorough documentation, you'll find some
spiffy sample images, lists of supporting applications, etc.

Hope this helps,
Eric
