Creating a Portfolio

Last week I asked several questions about creating a portfolio and I
thought I'd share the 6 responses with you.

1) I asked if people print pages single- or double-sided:
Single-Sided 3
Double-Sided 2
Didn''t say 1

The people who print pages single-sided put two pages, back-to-
back, into a protective sleeve.

2) Print the samples themselves rather than professionally:
Yes 2
Depends 2
Didn't say 2

The complexity of the samples is an important point to some of the
respondents. Black and white pages with line drawings can be
done at home. More involved samples, especially those involving
colour, often require professional printing.

3) Does it help to convert the material to PDF docs, especially if
they will be printed professionally?

One person said it depends on the printer. Another person has
PDF versions of all his paper documents. He puts them, as well as
his non-paper samples, on several diskettes for presentation
purposes.

Other comments:
- Five people mentioned protective sleeves.
- Three people use tabbed section-dividers.
- One person likes his portfolio professionally-bound; three others
use a three-ring binder.

If anyone is interested in getting more information:
1) Go to the archives. For those who aren't sure where they are, it's
http://listserv.okstate.edu/archives/techwr-l.html (I meant for those
who aren't sure where the archives are. If you're not sure about
where YOU are, I'm afraid I can't help you--I'm not Kreskin.) :-))

2) Choose SEARCH THE ARCHIVES.

3) Under SUBJECT, enter PORTFOLIOS.

4) Under SINCE, enter AUGUST 1995 (there's nothing before that).

5) Under UNTIL, enter AUGUST 1998.

Make sure you have some time: you'll get 70 hits.
