Subject:Techwriting vs. infodesign? From:"Geoff Hart (by way of \"Eric J. Ray\" <ejray -at- raycomm -dot- com>)" <ght -at- MTL -dot- FERIC -dot- CA> Date:Thu, 27 Aug 1998 09:18:41 -0600
Kathy Stanzler (aka Katherin King) whether there's a distinction
between "tech writing" and "information design".
Which came first, the chicken or the egg? I suspect you'll get a very
different answer depending on who you talk to, and that suggests
you'll need to ask each person how they're using the word. In a
strictly literal sense, technical _writing_ is a subset of
information design, because infodesign includes writing and
illustration, as well as other things such as usability, audience
analysis, and on and on. Here's the problem: most technical writers
also do these things nowadays, as a few days spent reading techwr-l
will demonstrate.
