Technical Writing Tips--short summary and another plea
Subject:Technical Writing Tips--short summary and another plea From:Douglas Max <dmax -at- BELLATLANTIC -dot- NET> Date:Wed, 19 Aug 1998 15:11:08 -0400
I promised you a summary and you'll have it...but, I feel the list wants
more.
One suggestion from a contributor was that I should make it easy on you
by asking that you submit just one or two of your favorite tips...I'll
find a category for it.
And, to make it simple on me, I'll ask that you don't include one of the
tips following (as they're obviously well known):
* Feed SMEs (cookies, cakes, fresh baked bread)
* Have toys for SMEs to play with while you grill them for info.
(Hmmm? Is some perception that SMEs don't want to help?)
* Keep it Simple, Keep it Simple Stupid, Keep it Simple you !##%&* idiot
(again that's me)
* Use examples
* Know your reader and think of them
Beyond these tips anything else is fair game and very welcome.
This will be my last press for tips and then I go the "press"!
Thanks again to those who contributed their thoughts and time and humor!
Doug Max
