In reply to Rob McMartin's flame on my earlier post. My final public reply
on this issue is:

Yes, <sigh> I did expect to get flamed.
Yes, <sigh> I knew I ran the risk of self perpetuating the problem.
Yes, <sigh> I knew I'd be told to leave if I didn't like the list.

I agree with you that plenty of good information gets posted.

A lot of non essential information gets posted as well. A classic example
is your flame to me and this reply to you. These could have been done
directly by hitting the reply button instead of hitting the list. Our
sentiments are as valid as everyone elses but imagine what the list would
be like if all 4000 (is this frequently used number correct?) of us posted
their views on a topic.

Punish me if you disagree, not the list.

I do apologise for sending this to the list(and therefore being
hypocritical). In future, any rebuttal will go direct to the flamer :~].

PS. Perhaps some of the waffle will "go away" and not those who might
contribute.

Nothing personal Rob.

Regards,

Bruce Ashley

Give it a rest Bruce,

You have just started one of the very threads you are against.

As much as you have a requirement for certain information on this forum,
so do many others. What may be chaff to you, is wheat to someone else.

Never attempt to shut down a forum of communication, every little post
contains an element of information. Some is useful, some isn't.

It's like television, if you don't like what is showing turn it off. If
you don't like what is espoused on the forum. Go away. Don't go away
mad, just go away.

I admit I have no need to know anything about RoboHelp, but over the
last few weeks I have come to know all its foibles and problems.

This has helped me at work when people have come to me wanting to know
information about On-Line Help systems.

I have been helped by this list and hindered, I had a week off when I
got back I had over 600 email messages in this forum. Did I read all of
them. Nope, I deleted the lot (thats why Eric goes to great lengths
with the archive).

All the information spouted here is archived and can be viewed later. If
you don't like the emails arriving, switch to the digest.

I have received a great many more messages on my email address than is
ever posted to the Forum.

Next you'll be telling us that you don't like a lot of the information
posted because its mainly coming from North America and therefore of no
relevance to you.

Don't like the Job Posts, because there all based in North America, well
lets rip them out.

Eric does a very good job of keeping us all on track and reminding us of
the rules. With the exception of a few digressions, most people stay
within the rules.

Not meaning to be critical, Bruce, but please never attempt to censor a
forum, no matter what it is you dislike about the forum.

With every thread on the forum I learn a little more about Tech Writers
in other parts of the world and that I am not that alone in what I do,
or where I work and the type of people I work with.

My opinion

regards

Rob.

PS you are probably going to get a lot of flame mail on this one. I
hope you've warned your email provider.
