i agree in part w/ suzette and julie. when i was contract (up until 1 week
ago when i became a permie at a startup) i worked offsite 1-5 days per
week. i would get up at 6, get straight to work, and work until around 1 or
2 w/ breaks in between. then i would do a little more work late at night.
afternoons, i was free as a bird happy not to have to stand in line in most
places.
however, i wouldn't be able to do it all the time. i spent Summer 97
working completely offsite, and it got terribly boring. i liked the naps,
the coffee breaks w/ good coffee, the morning croissant at my local
patisserie, and typing in my boxers... but the lack of socializing really
got to me. i ended up spending too much time emailing, talking on the
phone, or getting into virtual debates w/ sylvia pagoli, scot simon, and
the rest of the NPR crew.
now i'm happily involved w/ a young company liberal enough to see that
occasional telecommuting has its merits.
